Less than a month before October 17, Protected and Conserved Areas Day for all of Latin America and the Caribbean, we are consolidating powerful acknowledgments and integration; providing spaces for all people and their communities, organizations, companies and governments who wish to join in celebrating.
We begin the month of September by launching the PRE REGISTRATION FOR CELEBRATIONS to our Areas for well-being. In 2023, we managed to implement a short and easy registration as a first step. In a second instance - with the support of the ambassadors - the people and their communities, organizations, companies or enterprises and governments who have pre-registered, will be contacted to confirm and extend the registration of their celebration to a specific protected or conserved area . In this way we optimize the procedure, promote good management of key information and promote articulations, or support.
Our protected areas map is already being painted MAP OF CELEBRATED AREAS!.
We accompany the pre-registration with the GUIDES TO CELEBRATE AREAS FOR WELL-BEING 2023 as guidance for the entire process and access to opportunities offered by our integration platform.
We also managed to arrange full scholarships for the ambassadors of "La Celebración" who are mobilizing celebrations and actors in more than 15 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. With the support of the National University of Tres de Febrero Argentina, this recognition enables them to take the Virtual Diploma in Just Transition and Green Employment from Social Dialogue.
As every year, we continue to call on organizations, companies and entrepreneurs, communities, networks and governments, to support our initiative with their DONATIONS or to add SESSIONS or spaces for dialogue in our hybrid event on October 17, to be broadcasted from Honduras.
In 2023, we thank the support and endorsement of IUCN Regional Office for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, South America Regional Office, Honduras National Office; the IUCN Ecosystem Management Commission, the Young People of the Network of Biosphere Reserves of Ibero-America and the Caribbean (IberoMAB) and the Young Professionals of the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas, the national protected area systems CONAF of Chile, National Parks of Colombia and APN of Argentina. More organisations continue to join!
Together we consolidate the transparent and effective platform of "The Celebration of LAC Protected and Conserved Areas" with free, accessible and inclusive spaces. All in Spanish, Portuguese and English www.celebracionareasprotegidas.org
The management team continues to work hard to guarantee regional and sectoral representativeness in each milestone of this annual integration process, but especially for the Day of our LAC Protected and Conserved Areas.
HONDURAS embraces "The Celebration of LAC Protected and Conserved Areas" in 2023
With the special support of the IUCN National Office in Honduras, the environmental authorities of the government of this biodiverse country and its partners, the Management Team will be present at the center of the region, to strongly support its inclusion.
Mesoamerica and the Caribbean are two of the world's biodiversity hotspots. Despite representing less than 2% of the planet's surface, the region is home to between 7 and 12% of all known species globally. It has a great diversity of local communities and Indigenous Peoples who are linked, use and protect the natural resources of the region.
Honduras is part of the Critical Forest Biome of Mesoamerica. Its geographical position favors high biodiversity due to the convergence of ecosystems, up to date, 174 species of endemic plants and many other species have been identified in the country.
Honduras is a multicultural country with a high biodiversity in all its ecosystems, whether aquatic or terrestrial. . At the national level, 9 Indigenous and Afro-Honduran Peoples are recognized (Lenca, Ch’ortí’ Maya, Miskitu, Tawahka, Pech, Tolpan, Nahuas, Garífunas, Creoles or English Speaking Peoples .
So much to celebrate!
Honduras and the IUCN have benefited from joining The Celebration in 2021 and 2022, by consolidating advocacy processes before the local State to facilitate the participation of vulnerable groups (women, indigenous peoples and young people) in the conservation of natural resources. This includes 2 positions of the women's network and the youth network for inclusion in governance platforms, presented to the Ministry of Energy, Natural Resources, Environment and Mines (SERNA) and the National Institute of Forest Conservation, Protected Areas and Wildlife (ICF).
During the LAC PAyC Day celebrations, the files of the Cacique Lempira, Señor de las Montañas, and Joya de los Lagos Biological Corridors were delivered to the competent authorities. A framework for strengthening the capacities of co-managers of Protected Areas and women, youth and indigenous peoples was also agreed..

Considering a roof replacement as my current roof is showing signs of wear. Has anyone here gone through this recently? I’d appreciate insights on finding a trustworthy roofer, managing costs, and ensuring the project stays on track. If you have any recommendations or tips for making the roof replacement process smoother, I’d love to hear them!
